Without SSL: Website will display a 'Not Secure' warning.
You're serving your website over HTTP and not HTTPS with no SSL certificate installed. Google doesn't like this as the data is not being encrypted from when the user submits the data until the data reaches its destination, enabling any potential hackers access to this information as it has not been encrypted, so Google marks these websites as 'Not Secure' to notify the person browsing the website that the website they are on is 'Not Secure' while using Google Chrome, with others browsers following suit.
When the person entering your website is immediately greeted by the 'Not Secure' message in the browser, the browser is warning the person that there are potential risks while browsing the website, which may have the potential to scare off some of your clients, as they are being warned about using your website. This scenario is not ideal as it is potentially costing your business money in lost revenue as it will be driving clients to your competitors websites which do not have this warning and instead displays the 'Secure' message, enabling trust with the person browsing the website that it is safe to use.
With SSL & HTTPS: Website will display a 'Secure' message.
If your website has been setup succesfully, using HTTPS setup with a SSL certificate on your website, it will encrypts the data to protect the information sent back and forth between a website and a browser, this is called a secure connection. To do this, one party uses a key to encrypt any data being transmitted, the other party then uses the corresponding key to decrypt the information. This keeps you safe from anyone eavesdropping on the connection and stealing or intercepting information.
With an SSL cerificate installed and parsed through HTTPS, it encrypts the data to protect the information sent back and forth between a website and a browser, this is called a secure connection. To do this, one party uses a key to encrypt any data being transmitted, the other party then uses the corresponding key to decrypt the information. This keeps you safe from anyone eavesdropping on the connection and stealing or intercepting information.
